Designer or Stylist? What’s the Difference and Which is Finessed?

We often get asked if we provide interior design services. In short, yes, we do! But there is a little explanation that goes along with this answer which may be helpful for those looking for support in creating a new interior design in their home.  a dynamic business offering design, moving, & staging, we know firsthand how important it can be to budget and plan for furnishing a new space. It’s one of life’s biggest transitions! If you’re planning to furnish a home from scratch, it can be challenging to know where to start.

Everybody knows the term “interior designer” but in our experience, the term “interior stylist” is a bit more ambiguous. Sure, the professions have many similarities and, at times, design professionals can straddle the two. Both a designer and a stylist have the end goal of making the interiors they envision more beautiful and functional for their clients. And yes, both a designer and a stylist get to shop for pretty things and create some interior magic. But when do you hire a designer over a stylist and vice versa? Depends on your goals. Our interior styling service includes our time to generate the perfect plan and make the best selections, and our in-house receiving, storage, consolidation and installation team make the process from concept to reveal very cost-effective and seamless.

At Finessed, we consider ourselves more of interior stylists than interior designers. Unlike designers, our team really doesn’t want to touch your walls. I mean, we will dress them up with cool art and stuff but we don’t care to tear them down or rebuild them. Similarly, although we get excited about a beautiful kitchen or bathroom remodel, we don’t specialize in designing them. It’s not really our jam. These jobs would be a perfect fit for an interior designer. Instead, our mission at Finessed is to envision the potential of your existing space; we bring the home to life by adding that last layer: the furnishings, the textiles, the beauty of those accessories placed just so.

So if you are moving to a new home and need some support adding that last, decorative design layer, Finessed is here for you! Drop us a line through our website and we will work with you to create some visual magic in your new home.
